We had an Ah Umm Game Winner this morning that was really funny. I thought you would want to hear it:
After Ryan had won his very own WIBI Travel Mug, I started thinking about what he said. Obviously, he was teasing us when he said that he had the gifts of criticism and sarcasm; but, I have certainly met some Christians who thought those
were their spiritual gifts. And, I hate to admit it; but, at times I have acted like those were
my spiritual gifts. Instead of using the gift of discernment, we use the "gift" of criticism, pointing out everything that is wrong with a situation or with someone else. Instead of using the gift of encouragement or exhortation, we use the "gift" of sarcasm, even when it sometimes crosses the line. Instead of using the gift of faith, we use the "gift" of commiseration or quickly throwing cold water on someone's idea or dream. Have you ever found yourself doing this (or having someone act this way toward you) - or - am I the only one?
"There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but they all come from the same Spirit. There are different ways to serve the same Lord, and we can each do different things. Yet the same God works in all of us and helps us in everything we do. The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving others. Some of us can speak with wisdom, while others can speak with knowledge, but these gifts come from the same Spirit. To others the Spirit has given great faith or the power to heal the sick or the power to work mighty miracles. Some of us are prophets, and some of us recognize when God's Spirit is present. Others can speak different kinds of languages, and still others can tell what these languages mean. But it is the Spirit who does all this and decides which gifts to give to each of us." --1 Corinthians 12:4-11
Congratulations again to Ryan for being the winner of the Ah Umm Game this morning and for reminding us in a humorous way that we need to be careful about the gifts that we are using.
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." --James 1:17
